Hand-Forged Work

Pieces built from raw metal at the bench: milled, forged, fabricated and finished by hand.

Some commissions are made without a cast at all. Carol Ahern mills, forges and fabricates the metal herself, then sets and polishes each piece by hand. The Yowah opal commission below took two months from first contact to delivery.

Examples include a pendant and brooch built around a 28.38-carat Yowah opal with a hidden bail and an adjustable 18k chain, a pendant set with a 1.23-carat Songea ruby, an oak leaf ring assembled from seventeen pieces of metal, and 18k chain made link by link.
